Abstract From the Canadian patent

An implantable medical device (50, 60) containing an electromagnetic accelerometer (100) which includes a rigid shell (102) with a cavity (104) in which two magnets (106, 114) are fixed at either end of the rigid shell and one magnet (110) is allowed to move between the fixed magnets. The three magnets are arranged so that the movable magnet is suspended between the fixed magnets by magnetic forces from the fixed magnets. A coil of wire (116) surrounds the shell and magnets. An acceleration of the accelerometer causes a displacement of the movable magnet with the cavity. As a result an electrical , current is induced in the coil of wire. The voltage in the coil of wire is …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 2, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended September 2, 2018.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 2, 2020.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
