In the process of analyzing changes in gene expression by TNF.alpha. in human umbilical vascular endothelial cells, a gene showing enhanced expression due to the stimulation with TNF.alpha. was isolated. As the result of screening with the use of this gene as a probe, a gene encoding a novel protein was isolated. By analyzing the protein encoded by the thus isolated gene it has , been found out that this protein is a novel one which has never been reported hitherto and has a PDZ domain in its molecule playing an important role in protein/protein interactions.

Why it's free to use
- Filed August 12, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended August 12, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 12, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
