Existing communication connections in a cellular telephone base station can become allocated to communication equipment in a less than optimal fashion. To address this problem a detector (200) identifies (300) when an existing communication connection routed through the base station is terminated. The detector informs a processor (210) which calculates a channel allocation for the remaining communication connections currently routed through the base station which optimizes channel utilization. The optimal channel allocation is then implemented through intracell handovers (330 350 and 370). The optimal , channel allocation is based on assigning an existing communication connection …

Why it's free to use
- Filed August 18, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended August 18, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 18, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
