Abstract From the Canadian patent

DNA sequence from petunia which encodes a MADS box protein indicated FBP10 and having the amino acid sequence given in SEQ ID NO:2 or a functionally homologous protein. Said DNA sequence comprises the FBP10 gene having the cDNA nucleotide sequence given in SEQ ID NO:1 or a functionally homologous gene. Inactivation of the function of said DNA sequence if present as an endogenous , gene in a plant results in inhibition of flowering. Further the invention discloses a process for producing a transgenic plant in which flowering is inhibited, comprising inhibiting the expression of endogenous FBP10 gene or a homologous gene.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 18, 1997. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended July 18, 2017.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 18, 2019.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
