A closure (10) having a sealing rib (14) projecting downwardly from the underside of its top portion (11). The first portion (15) of the sealing rib (14) increases in thickness as it extends away from the top portion (11). In another aspect, the invention relates to a closure (10) in which the sealing rib (14) has a third portion (18) that is substantially no thicker than the second portion (17) of the rib (14) and has a length longer and preferably , substantially longer, than its thickness.
