A deflection sensor (35) is mounted adjacent to the inner surface of the outer shell (23) for measuring the amount of deflection of the flexible outer shell (23) caused by the paper roll. The amount of deflection is related to the pressure at the nip point and, by moving the reel spool (26) and flexible reel drum (19) away from each other as the diameter of the paper roll increases the pressure can be controlled at a desired level. Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 17, 1998 and granted October 30, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 17, 2018.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 17, 2020.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
