A design of expanded-beam type wavelength multiplexer or channel drop and insert filter using oblique light incidence upon a concatenation of substrate mounted dielectric filters involves mounting the beam-expanding graded-index lenses in pre-aligned V-grooves, and only later securing fibres to those lenses. This approach simplifies component alignment problems by reducing the number of degrees of freedom and, by virtue of the fact that the mechanical design allows implementation using minimal amounts of adhesive provides long-term stability of optical performance.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 6, 1999. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended December 6, 2019.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 6, 2021.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
