This application relates to the cloning of the cDNA encoding Osteoblast Specific Factor-2 (OSF2), and applications of it. OSF2 is shown to be encoded by the CBFA1 locus, but differs, in its 5'-terminus from the original CBFA1 , transcript. Osf2 mRNA is further shown to exist as two splice variants. The characterisation of the functional domains of OSF2 is also described as well , as the phenotype of OSF2 transgenic animals. OSF2 was previously identified in osteoblast cell nuclear extracts, as a specific activity binding to OSE2 one , of two Osteoblast Specific promoter Elements identified in the osteocalcin gene promoter.

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 29, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 29, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 29, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
