A runflat pneumatic tire (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6) has a tread stiffening member (101) radially inward of the tread (12). The tire has a deflected section height H30 under load at 30 psi inflation and a deflected section height H0 at 0 psi wherein the deflection D30 are equal to or less than D0 - D30 and the net contact area at 0 psi has a perimeter dynamic contact of at least U shaped or rectangular.
