A fast-setting coating material can be prepared by contacting a stable acqueous dispersion of a polymer that contains strong cationic groups and weak acid groups onto a substrate that is basic or rendered to be basic. Alternatively, the coating material can be prepared by contacting in either order or concurrently, the surface of a substrate with two separate polymers one of which contains strong cationic groups and the other of which contains , weak acid groups. In this case the substrate need not be basic for the coating to quickly set.

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 13, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 13, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 13, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
