The invention relates to a method for cutting tobacco in which a tobacco cake (1) is fed to, a mouthpiece (5) from which it emerges after which it is cut by means of a , knife cutter (6, 7), more particularly, a rotating knife drum wherein in at least one , cutting action a substantially wider section is severed from the tobacco cake (1) than in other cutting, actions. The invention also relates to an apparatus for implementing the method.
