The present invention involves the isolation and characterization of the first discovered phytochrome-regulated transcriptional factor a protein designated , CCA1 which binds to the promoter region of the chlorophyll binding protein gene (Lhcbl*3) of Arabidopsis. The Lhcbl*3 gene of Arabidopsis is known to be regulated by phytochrome in etiolated seedlings where a brief illumination by red light results in a large increase in the level of mRNA from this gene. A DNA binding activity, designated CA-1, that interacts with the promoter region of Lhcbl*3 was previously discovered in cellular extracts. This binding activity was used to obtain a cDNA clone for a transcription factor that …

Why it's free to use
- Filed April 17, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended April 17, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 17, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
