A tensed sleeve has a holder having at least two substantially parallel rows of optical, fibres which are offset from one another by about 2 µm or more. Generally these, defective offset sleeves have to be discarded as their offset inhibits proper coupling of, light, however in accordance with this invention a lens is disposed to receive light from at, least optical fibres within one of the at least two rows of optical fibres. By using, symmetry about the lens, light can be efficiently coupled between particular fibre ends on, the offset rows. Advantageously this invention provides a use for otherwise useless, sleeves which did not meet intended tolerances.

Why it's free to use
- Filed October 21, 1999. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended October 21, 2019.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 21, 2021.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
