A vehicle lamp such as a bicycle tail lamp includes a tight emitting diode which emits light in a solid angle of about ~ 180°. The light emitting, diode is arranged in such a way that in operation the central axis of the solid angle into which the light emitting diode emits light is directed approximately horizontally. The lamp includes an optically active element which leaves substantially unchanged the angular distribution of the light emitted by the light emitting diode in the horizontal direction while, however focusing the light emitted in a vertical direction.

Why it's free to use
- Filed September 28, 1999. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended September 28, 2019.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 28, 2021.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
