A mounting device for mounting a molding a molding, and, a mounting system including the mounting device and the melding. A method for mounting the molding using the mounting device is also provided. The mounting device is adapted for mounting to a surface and has a protective lip to retain and protect an inner edge of the molding. The mounting device also has a snap-catch for securing the molding. The molding has a decorative top surface and an underside adapted to receive the snap-catch of the mounting device and to prevent interference of the molding with fasteners used to secure the mounting device to the surface.
