A process for preparing a polymer by using a copper compound which is easy to synthesize and is stable as a polymerization catalyst. The process is characterized in that a vinyl monomer having a polar value e of not more than 1.5 in terms of absolute value is polymerized by using as a catalyst and/or a polymerization initiator a copper compound represented by the general formula CuXn, LCuXn, or L(L')CuXn (wherein L and L' represent each a ligand; X represents a halogen atom or an alkoxy thioxy, allyloxy, amino, secondary , amino tertiary amino, cyano, nitro, alkyl, or allyl group; and n is an integer of 0 to 2).

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 17, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended February 17, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 17, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
