Abstract From the Canadian patent

A brake light for a vehicle includes an enhanced warning effect defined by a strobe light having a clear lens mounted between two or more conventional red, lens bulbs. A control device actuates the strobe light so that it flashes for a short, period of time and then ceases only to be reactivated when the brake pedal is pressed again. The control device stops the flashing action in the event that the, vehicle is moving slowly to avoid the strobe light becoming a distraction in slow, moving traffic.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 7, 1999. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended September 7, 2019.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 7, 2021.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
