Abstract From the Canadian patent

The present invention provides for novel reagents whose fluorescence increases in the presence of particular proteases. The reagents comprise a characteristically folded peptide backbone each end of which is conjugated to a fluorophore. When the folded peptide is cleaved as by digestion with a , protease, the fluorophores provide a high intensity fluorescent signal at a visible wavelength. Because of their high fluorescence signal in the visible wavelengths, these protease indicators are particularly well suited for detection of protease activity in biological samples in particular in frozen , tissue sections. Thus this invention also provides for methods of detecting protease …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed February 20, 1998 and granted November 3, 2015. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 20, 2018.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 20, 2020.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
