Abstract From the Canadian patent

A position detector includes a fluid cylinder (20) having a piston (26). An ultrasonic transceiver (31) is provided at one end of the piston (26) outside of the moving range of the piston (26). In response to electrical signals the ultrasonic transceiver (31) transmits ultrasonic waves to a reflection surface of the piston (26). The transceiver (31) receives the ultrasonic waves reflected by the piston (26) and then generates electrical signals representing the reflected waves. A sensor detects that the piston (26) is at a predetermined position at which the distance to the transceiver (31) is known. A CPU (45) supplies electrical signals to the ultrasonic transceiver (31) to produce …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed August 3, 1999 and granted October 21, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 3, 2019.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 3, 2021.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
