Abstract From the Canadian patent

In a seismic data acquisition system that uses a vibratory source an actual groundforce signal is recorded. This groundforce signal includes in addition, to a reference sweep signal noise including harmonic, distortion. This recorded groundforce signal is used to derive a filter that is used for filtering seismic data that has been generated by the source and reflected by subsurface reflectors to suitable detectors at the surface. The filter is derived by dividing in the, frequency domain, a short duration wavelet by the time derivative of the ground force signal.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 11, 1998 and granted June 3, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 11, 2018.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 11, 2020.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
