In a system for communicating an image an image, compression scheme is employed to encode the image to reduce the required bandwidth for transmitting same. For example, this compression scheme includes performing on, the image, a discrete cosine transform (DCT) followed by, quantization. To reduce the effects of coding artifacts occasioned by the compression scheme, in accordance with the invention, a filter arrangement which is matched to the coding of the image may be utilized to process a received image. Why it's free to use

  • Filed July 2, 1999 and granted April 29, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 2, 2019.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 2, 2021.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
