Selectively water-responsive polymer blend compositions constructed of combinations of polymers including polylactic acid and polyvinyl alcohol are provided. A method of making a selectively water-sensitive homogenous polymer blend composition, comprising combining polylactide and polyvinyl alcohol at a temperature above the melting point of the polymer having the higher melting point, and below the decomposition point of the polymer having the lower decomposition point, to form a homogeneous polymer blend composition is also provided. The water-responsive properties of the polymer blend compositions include water-dispersible, water-disintegratable water-weakenable, and water-, …

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 12, 1997. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended December 12, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 12, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
