Abstract From the Canadian patent

A method and apparatus provide channel estimation for multicarrier systems. A minimum mean-square-error (MMSE) channel estimator makes full use of time-and frequency-domain correlations of the frequency response of time- varying dispersive fading channels. A robust channel estimator that is insensitive to the channel statistics is provided. The robust channel estimator can significantly improve the performance of a multicarrier system such as an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) modulation system in a rapid dispersive fading channel. In addition the estimation process can employ a new reference generator which can select the source of the reference signal as being a decoded …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 31, 1999 and granted April 15, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 31, 2019.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 31, 2021.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
