Abstract From the Canadian patent

A chain guard is used on a rotary mower to prevent objects from being thrown out from under the mower. The chain guard includes adjacent strands of chain forming a curtain. The adjacent strands are linked by cross links spaced along, the chains to form a chain net which is more effective at trapping up thrown objects, than the unlinked chains.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 19, 1999. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 19, 2019.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 19, 2021.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
