Abstract From the Canadian patent

The Ge concentration in a core part (10a) is higher than 12 mol.% and not higher than 30 mol.%. The voltage which is applied at the time of ultraviolet radiation excitation polling is within a range of 1 x 10 5 - 8 x 10 5 V/cm. Thus, SiO2 glass material has a nonlinear optical constant d of not less than 2.5 pm/V. Therefore an optical functional , device such as an optical switch can be made of the glass material.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 29, 1997 and granted August 20, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 29, 2017.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 29, 2019.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
