Open the CIPO recordAbstract From the Canadian patent
The invention concerns a fireproof glazing comprising at least two glass sheets between which is provided a transparent fireproof material made of hardened hydrated alkaline polysilicate. At least one glass sheet is provided on its surface which is in contact with the fireproof material with a primer coating whereof the adherence to the fireproof layer decreases at fire-resistance testing temperatures. At fire-resistance testing temperature the glass sheet exposed to fire is completely detached from the fireproof material. Thus the polysilicate fireproof shield remains intact even when the exposed glass sheet breaks and the fragments fall.

Why it's free to use
- Filed July 22, 1998 and granted December 6, 2011. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended July 22, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by July 22, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
