Abstract From the Canadian patent

Wrinkles are comestically removed from a superficial area of mammalian skin tissue having an epidermal layer, a basal layer and a dermal layer, by , irradiating the dermal layer through the basal layer by means of visible or infrared radiation (such as a laser), the irradiation being selected to be absorbed by a chromophore in the dermal layer such that collagen present in the dermal layer is heated, while the basal layer remains intact so as to substantially inhibit contact of the dermal layer with ambient air.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed August 29, 1997 and granted July 2, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended August 29, 2017.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by August 29, 2019.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
