A flowering characteristic of a plant, particularly the timing of flowering is controlled by expression of the Late Elongated Hypocotyl (LHY) gene of Arabidopsis thaliana or a mutant, variant allele, derivative or homologue , thereof. Over-expression may be used to delay flowering in a transgenic plant. The promoter of the gene regulates transcription in accordance with the circadian rhythm and may be used to control expression of genes whose products are only required or desirable at certain times of the day.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 23, 1997. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended June 23, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 23, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
