A self-propelled model vehicle adapted for use on a closed loop raceway having a guide slot coextensive therewith is provided with a guide arm including a downwardly depending guide pin that engages with the guide slot of the raceway. The guide slot defines the boundary between two adjacent lanes of the raceway. The guide arm is controlled by a motor for lateral movement The lateral movement of the guide arm forces the guide pin against a side of the guide slot to effect the lateral displacement of the model vehicle into the adjacent lane of the raceway.
