The performance of a wireless telecommunications system is enhanced by the exchange of frame error rate (FER) setting data between base stations and an FER control system within a selection/distribution unit. This exchange occurs when radio facilities from other base stations are added to a call during a soft handoff procedure.

Why it's free to use
- Filed December 23, 1998 and granted June 24, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended December 23, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by December 23, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
