Abstract From the Canadian patent

Apparatus (10) for generating a radar waveform (W). A noises generator (20) generates a series of pulses in a pseudo-random pattern and a frequency , generator (16) generates a carrier wave having a frequency within a predetermined band of frequencies. The carrier wave is modulated with the pseudo-random pattern of pulses, and the resulting modulated carrier wave passed through both a filter (30) and an attenuator (32) to suppress any discernible feature or signal characteristics of the resulting waveform. The modulated carrier is transmitted by an antenna (42) and a received return signal is processed by a signal processor (100) to obtain pertinent information about a target. The …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 30, 1997 and granted November 4, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 30, 2017.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 30, 2019.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
