Abstract From the Canadian patent

This invention relates generally to mechanisms of gene expression in plants and more specifically to regulation of expression of genes in plants in a "tissue-preferred" manner. A method for isolation of transcriptional regulatory elements that contribute to tissue-preferred gene expression is disclosed. Transcriptional regulatory elements isolated using the methods of this invention are demonstrated to direct tissue-preferred gene expression of genes within certain tissues of a plant. DNA molecules representing tissuepreferred transcriptional regulatory elements vectors comprising said DNA , molecules and transgenic plants comprising said vectors are demonstrated. Said …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 14, 1997 and granted April 4, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended May 14, 2017.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 14, 2019.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
