Abstract From the Canadian patent

This invention is a skin piercing device which converts a longitudinal linear motion of a blade (5) within the housing (1) of said device into a vertical linear motion, which in consequence of the placement of biasing means (6) restraints and stops (10) in the device results in the ejection of the blade , (5) out of the housing (1) and into the patient's skin and back again into the housing (1) in a rapid "in-out" fashion. The dimensions of the restraints and stops are individually controllable, and as a result it is possible to , achieve a length of cut which is independent of the depth of cut.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 15, 1997. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 15, 2017.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 15, 2019.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
