A method and apparatus for channel performance equalization in wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) systems is disclosed. Performance of the channels is estimated from optical power measurements of each signal transmitted by the channels. The measurements are taken at the inputs of optical amplifiers in the transmission path of the system. The channels are equalized by adjusting the optical power of the channeltransmitters. The method is applicable to point-to-point networks as well as more complex network configurations such as those having an add-drop multiplexer (ADM) for inserting and extracting channels from the transmission path. The method can compensate for signals having different …

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 26, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended November 26, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 26, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
