Abstract From the Canadian patent

The individual functionality of a first computer controlled switching system canbe replicated by a second system if the operational data for the first system is merged with the system-specific data for the second system. Databases for both systems can be merged by copying specific data items from the preexisting database into the appropriate data structures for system specific data. Predefined rules for the location use, type and, other requirements of missing and requisite data elements are used to locate and merge the two databases together.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed November 24, 1998 and granted November 6, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 24, 2018.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 24, 2020.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
