Oxidation of alkyl and aromatic compounds using ceric ions. The alkyl and aromatic compounds are in solution in a C5 to C15 alkane preferably hexane or n-heptane or n-decane or cyclohexane at a, concentration preferably between 0.1 to 3.0 molar such that the, carbonyl compound obtained is at a concentration which is above its minimum solubility in the alkanes and below the maximum solubility of the aromatic or alkyl aromatic compound in the alkanes. The product obtained is purer, i.e. there are lesser by-products associated therewith and chemical yields are substantially improved.

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 13, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended November 13, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 13, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
