The present process for the preparation of polymers of alpha-olefins involves contacting, under effective polymerization conditions at least one .alpha.-, olefin having from 4 to 30 carbon atoms with a catalyst comprising a transition metal complex and a co-catalyst. The transition metal complex contemplated for use in the process consists of a reduced valency transition metal, selected from groups 4-6 of the Periodic Table of the Elements with a , multidentate monoanionic ligand and with two monoanionic ligands. In particular the reduced transition metal is titanium Ti+3.

Why it's free to use
- Filed May 1, 1997. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 1, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 1, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
