Abstract From the Canadian patent

Multi-phase fluid flow in a pipeline (12) or other flowline is minitored using a combination of flow type detectors. One set of detectors monitors the interfaces between fluid interfaces and the other monitors the presence of different fluid phases around the periphery of the flowline. The relative volumetric fluid flow rates can be measured by detecting changes in the phase interfaces between two sets of sensor rings (14, 16) using sensors (20, 22, 24 and 26) spaced around the flowline with the fluid flow type being detected across the flowline with an annular capacitance detector. The sensors rings typically use ultrasonic transducers (28, 30, 32 and 34) for detecting the phase …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 8, 1997 and granted December 11, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 8, 2017.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 8, 2019.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
