Apparatus and methods are provided for re-canalizing stent regions (M) within the vasculature which has become re-stenosed. A shearing body (20) is displaced within the stent region in order to dislodge the stenotic material from an interface envelope defined by the inner surface of the stent. Usually the shearing body will be compliant and sized slightly larger than the stent in order to remove stenotic material substantially uniformly around the entire interface envelope. The shearing body may be in the form of a brush (96) helical row (34), spaced apart disks (150) solid compressible body, or a , variety of other specific configurations.

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 11, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended February 11, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 11, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
