A network node includes a single buffer connected to a transmission medium. Detection circuitry receives an incoming packet and detects the virtual connection of the received packet. Control circuitry calculates a value of delivery instant for the received packet according to a minimum bandwidth assigned to the detected virtual connection so that vacancy of the transmission medium is reduced to a minimum if the received packet were delivered from the buffer onto the transmission medium at the instant of the calculated value. The calculated value is compared with a decision threshold assigned to the detected virtual connection. The received packet is stored into the buffer if the calculated …

Why it's free to use
- Filed October 5, 1998 and granted July 22, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended October 5, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 5, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
