Abstract From the Canadian patent

An at least 3-port optical circulator has first group of optical components and a second, group of optical components the first group being separated from the second group by an optical distance "l". Each group of optical components has a divider and combiner for dividing an input beam into two beams having orthogonal polarizations and for combining two beams having orthogonal polarizations into a single beam. Furthermore each group has a GRIN lens for at least substantially collimating or focussing input light and a polarization rotator between the first divider and combiner and the GRIN lens for making two orthogonal polarization vectors parallel or the two parallel polarization vectors …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed October 1, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended October 1, 2018.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by October 1, 2020.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
