In a delayed coking process the temperature of the liquid in the coke drum (4) is increased by the addition of a heated non-coking hydrocarbon diluent. The heated non-coking diluent can be added to either a delayed coker furnace effluent prior to entering the coke drum (4) directly into the coke drum (4), or both. The resulting increase in coke drum temperature results in increased liquid yields and decrease in coke yields.

Why it's free to use
- Filed February 7, 1997 and granted September 10, 2002. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended February 7, 2017.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by February 7, 2019.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
