Abstract From the Canadian patent

The invention relates to an optical conductor and a strip of optical conductors. The optical conductor is of the monomode type. It consists of an optical fibre (12) covered by a primary layer (14) which is in turn covered by a secondary layer. To reduce the cost of manufacturing the conductor the secondary layer is comprised of an outer portion (18) made of thermoplastic whose apparent viscosity at melting point does not exceed approximately 100 Pascal-seconds at a shear rate of at least 100 s-1. The primary layer (14) and the inner portion (16) of the secondary layer are made of an ultraviolet-setting resin.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed June 18, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended June 18, 2018.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 18, 2020.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
