Abstract From the Canadian patent

According to a further broad aspect of the present invention there is provided a process for expediting and manufacture of a hydrogel contact lens suitable for insertion into the eye. The process comprises washing a hydrophilic polymeric contact lens in a series of processing stations to hydrate the lens and remove leachable species from the lens. The lens is then sealed in a final package for the lens with a buffered aqueous saline solution under conditions effective to neutralize the pH and osmolality of the lens to be compatible with that of the eye and to maintain hydration of the lens.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed April 15, 1991 and granted July 8, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended April 15, 2011.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by April 15, 2013.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
