In a communication network, the network blocking probability can be efficiently calculated by applying a Gaussian approximation to a fixed point algorithm (410). Gaussian curves are approximated to represent state probability distributions of the network links (410). By efficiently calculating the network blocking probability (430) the network can be , optimally designed by lowering the network blocking probability below a threshold at the least cost.

Why it's free to use
- Filed November 6, 1996 and granted April 24, 2001. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended November 6, 2016.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by November 6, 2018.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
