Abstract From the Canadian patent

A high voltage alternating current (ac) voltage converter converts a high voltage ac input source into a lower voltage direct current with great efficiency. The invention uses the line frequency of the ac current to switch an electronic switch to alternately reconfigure a combination of capacitors and diodes to perform energy storage and effect voltage division. The dc output voltage of the circuit will be approximately one half of the peak ac input voltage at no load.

Why it's free to use

  • Filed May 11, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended May 11, 2018.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by May 11, 2020.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
