When a mine shaft is sunk, the ground is supported as the shaft deepens. This method involves covering the walls of the shaft with metal screening held in place by spikes fastened in the rock. The screening is often damaged by dynamiting operations. This creates extra work and undermines the efficiency of mining operations. This invention is for removable screening that is installed during dynamiting operations and removed as necessary.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 3, 1998 and granted May 9, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 3, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 3, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
