A method is described of operating an internal combustion engine having a combustion chamber which is bounded by the respective inner wall of a cylinder head, a cylinder wall and a piston that can move in the cylinder. This method is defined, in particular by the, fuel being injected. directly into the combustion chamber in such a way that it is reflected at the piston head. This makes it possible to obtain easy-to-ignite charge stratification when idling and in the partial-load ranges, so that very good quiet running is achieved in these operating states.

Why it's free to use
- Filed June 21, 1996 and granted July 4, 2000. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended June 21, 2016.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by June 21, 2018.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
