Abstract From the Canadian patent

A sports implement (10) including an electroactive element (22) such as a , piezoceramic sheet attached to the implement and a circuit (Figure 3) attached to the electroactive element. The circuit may be a shunt (58) or may include , processing such as amplification and phase control to apply a driving signal which may compensate for strain sensed in the implement or may simply alter the stiffness to affect performance. In a ski (10) the electroactive element , is located near the root (R') in a region of high strain to apply damping and , the element captures between about one and five percent of the strain energy of the ski. The region of high strain may be found by modeling mechanics …

Why it's free to use

  • Filed September 27, 1996 and granted June 24, 2003. A Canadian patent filed from October 1, 1989 lasts 20 years from filing, so its term ended September 27, 2016.
  • A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by September 27, 2018.
  • We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
