Inside a metal casing (1) filled with an electrolyte this electrochemical battery consists of at least one electrochemical couple comprised of a liner (2) a positive electrode (6) of a liner (2) and a negative electrode (5). Like electrodes are connected in parallel and to their corresponding output terminals (3 4), which are insulated from the casing (1). The battery has an additional electrode (10) in contact with the bottom of the casing (1) and impregnated with electrolyte that contains an electrochemically active material chosen because its electrochemical potential is within the passivation and stability range of the metal of the casing (1). In a prototype this casing (1) is aluminum, …

Why it's free to use
- Filed March 23, 1998. No grant is recorded for it in Canada; had it been granted, its 20-year term would have ended March 23, 2018.
- A certificate of supplementary protection adds at most two years for a drug, so even that would have ended by March 23, 2020.
- We check Canadian rights only. A patent in its family in another country could still be in force: check its family on Google Patents.
